This site has expanded! Most waistlines have grown during the pandemic, so why not widgetwood.com too? There’s a new ‘glowforge’ subpage where I’ll be highlighting projects, techniques, learnings, materials, etc. It’s a little sparse for now, but expect it to grow over time. The link is at the top of the page (or at http://www.widgetwood.com/glowforge).Continue reading “glowforge Time!”

I Tube, YouTube, We all Tube!
I created a YouTube channel for WidgetWood! Now there’s a handy place for posting videos of my lamps, home improvement projects, carpentry, and now.. dum dum dum… glowforge projects (industrial laser CNC)! I posted videos of the 1) GlowForge unboxing and 2) my first project (wood cut of my logo). And…. Stay tuned for aContinue reading “I Tube, YouTube, We all Tube!”
Rabbit Season! Duck Season!
No, it’s tire season. Specifically, time to remove the snows and install the performance. So this post isn’t about lamps, home improvement, or carpentry, but I feel like posting. 🙂 I have a second set of wheels so I do the work myself. I love my Mini Cooper, and this gives us a chance toContinue reading “Rabbit Season! Duck Season!”
Evolution of a logo…
I added a bit of flair (and higher resolution graphics) to my logo today in anticipation of my pending GlowForge delivery…. I’d like to make coasters, etc., and possibly include them with lamp shipments. I won’t include the logo lettering for things like letterheads, but I’ll have this version when there’s a need. What doContinue reading “Evolution of a logo…”
Lamp #40: A milestone!
I don’t typically promote my lamps here in the blog, but I reached a milestone and it’s my blog! 🙂 Lamp #40 is a single malt distilled in beautiful Boulder Colorado by boulder-spirits.com. I’m always happy to get empty bottles. And I’m even happier when people check out my store at widgetwood.etsy.com. More “regular” postsContinue reading “Lamp #40: A milestone!”
Rubber Biscuit?
My DeWALT DW682K Plate Joiner is one of my favorite tools. It makes precision slots for easily aligning pieces prior to glue application and clamping. Slots are cut into adjoining surface with the joiner. Side-to-side positioning is easily achieved by aligning the red line on the joiner with a straight line drawn across pieces. ConsistentContinue reading “Rubber Biscuit?”
Blog: Suggested Topics?
I have a list of upcoming blog topics, but I’d love to get requests. Topics can range from the workshop, lamps, projects, home improvement, etc. Or whatever else you may have in mind. Please forward your ideas via the contact form. I’d love to hear from you! Upcoming topics include: Biscuit Cutting (Plate Joiner) OutletsContinue reading “Blog: Suggested Topics?”
Clamp, Clamp, Ka Bamp!*
Clamps are an amazing thing. Especially when you have the right kind and enough of them. I’ve been collecting a variety for a while, and I may finally have enough. Here’s a quick walkthrough…
The ‘Salon Table’ is done!
Time to celebrate! My second true piece of furniture has been completed! The full album is HERE. This was a fun project that included new techniques and new lessons learned… Using a benchtop mortiser for the leg cross-pieces. Yes, you still have to chisel a bit to clean it out and leave a bit ofContinue reading “The ‘Salon Table’ is done!”
Assemble-Finish or Finish-Assemble?
I assembled the bathroom vanity before I finished it (stain, polyurethane, sanding). That went fine for most of it, but it was difficult to sand coats of finish next to interior edges. And it meant locking cabinet door panels in place with polyurethane rather than letting them ‘float’. So for the salon table I optedContinue reading “Assemble-Finish or Finish-Assemble?”
